Daniel Barrett is a solicitor in the real estate dispute resolution team. He advises on a broad range of contentious issues relating to property, with a particular focus on disputed lease renewals.

Daniel's practice area covers a number of contentious issues relating to both commercial and residential property. His clients value his ability to turn complicated legal requirements into a simple process.

Daniel has a particular interest in leasehold enfranchisement. He regularly acts for both landlords and tenants in complex collective enfranchisements and lease extensions.

He is also regularly instructed to act for commercial landlords and tenants in connection with disputed business lease renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, as well as contractual disputes,  dilapidations claims, and forfeiture actions.

Daniel is a member of the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners and the Property Litigation Association.

Recent work
  • Acting for various multinational retailers in connection with their real estate portfolio management.
  • Acting for landlords and tenants in residential lease extensions under the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993, where issues of significant value are in dispute.
  • Acting for a national retailer on a new tenancy of its flagship store against a landed estate landlord which opposed renewal due to redevelopment.
  • Acting for a US-based company in connection with the recovery of rent arrears at a London office block it owned.
  • Advising on the provisions of the Building Safety Act 2022 and the obligations of landlords and tenants arising from the Act.
