The President of the Employment Tribunals has issued new guidance, increasing the bands for injury to feelings awards in discrimination cases (known as the Vento bands).

The increased bands are effective for relevant claims issued on or after 6 April 2018.
The increase in the Vento bands can be seen as follows:

For claims presentedbefore 6 April 2018 |
For claims presentedon or after 6 April 2018 |
|---|---|---|
| Lower band | £800-£8,400 | £900- £8,600 |
| Middle band | £8,400-£25,200 | £8,600- £25,700 |
| Upper band | £25,200-£42,000 | £25,700-£42,900 |
The awards can exceed the top band in only the most exceptional of cases.
