Crafty Fest 2026: Working with your C-suite to de-escalate potential disputes

"Bunting.

Howard Kennedy was pleased to sponsor and take part in Crafty Counsel’s Crafty Fest 2026, bringing together in-house legal and governance professionals at Regent’s University, London.

As part of the programme, Julia Wookey and Eloise Crompton led a workshop on a topic that consistently comes up with clients:

How do you take control of an issue before it escalates, particularly when legal, commercial and stakeholder pressures are pulling in different directions?

Drawing on practical experiences, the session explored some of the most common drivers of escalation:

  • Incomplete, or delayed, factual picture
  • Misalignment and unclear objectives
  • Reactive communications
  • Premature or delayed decision-making

We discussed practical ways to slow escalation of an issue down to find clarity and create space for effective decision-making rather than knee-jerk responses that can increase risk and limit options.
