Peter Birkett handles complex real estate development and investment transactions for clients.

Peter is a solicitor in the firm’s Real Estate Development team. His wide range experience covers residential, commercial, retail, and infrastructure projects and he assists clients on all aspects of site acquisition, development, funding, and disposal matters.

While he predominantly acts for entrepreneurial developers, Peter is well placed to provide support across a wide range of real estate transactions.

His focus is on acting for landowners and developers on complex development sites, including advising on strategic documentation and transactional processes.  Peter understands the broad range of issues that may be facing your business and works to ensure a development is achievable. He is also well versed in addressing the competing interests of landowners, developers and funders and the extended timescales which apply to such deals.

Recent work
  • Acquisition of airspace leases for future development, dealing with legislative issues, funding requirements, and enhancement of development potential.
  • Acquisition of a leasehold title involving complex issues on "agent of change" principles, sound attenuation, and complex residential development.
  • Negotiating complex promotion agreements for a site in multiple ownership with issues over access, infrastructure, valuation, railway access, and division of sale proceeds.
  • Negotiation of a multi-party land swap with difficulties on timing of sales, planning and infrastructure agreements and restrictive covenants.
  • Negotiation of a land exchange requiring unusual separation between changes in ownership and the timing of development.
