Lara specialises in property disputes including contentious landlord and tenant (both residential and commercial) advising landlords, tenants, developers, hoteliers, property owners, investors, management agents and professionals on a wide range of areas including rent and service charge recovery, forfeiture and possession claims, contested lease renewals, enfranchisement and a variety of breaches of leasehold covenants including dilapidations and service charge disputes, applications for consent and other issues arising out of the terms of a lease. She also advises on boundary disputes, rights of way, rights of light, party wall awards and real estate related professional negligence claims, rectification and misrepresentation claims, specific performance and real estate related insolvency.

Lara is experienced in advising on probate disputes including Inheritance Act claims and proprietary estoppel as well as claims brought under the Trust of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 (“TOLTA”)

Lara has considerable experience in ADR including mediation, adjudication and expert determination.

Lara is a member of the Property Litigation Association and in 2004 became a member of the Education and Training Sub-Committee. She has written for both the Estates Gazette and the Solicitors Journal and was a contributor of the Landlord and Tenant Factbook.

  • Acting for the freehold owner in relation to a dispute regarding professional fees including issues of jurisdiction
  • Acting for lessees in respect of claim for damages and/trespass arising out of defective works
  • Advising developers in connection with claims for defective work and damage
  • Acting for freehold companies and advising on lease obligations including recovery of costs via the service charge and advising on applications to First Tier Tribunal.
