Jonathan Cowley is a solicitor in the firm's Real Estate Dispute Resolution team. He regularly advises on a variety of contentious real estate matters for commercial and residential clients.

Jonathan acts for both landlords and tenants on commercial lease renewals (both contested and uncontested), dilapidation claims and other breach of lease covenants, in addition to advising on adverse possession, injunctions against squatters and tenant insolvency issues. He advises on a wide range of landlord and tenant management matters and works alongside the Real Estate Dispute Resolution team to resolve disputes and achieve favourable outcomes for his clients.

In addition, Jonathan has significant experience in progressing leasehold enfranchisement claims and has acted for both landlords and tenants in this area.

Jonathan has dispute resolution experience in the County Court, First-tier Tribunal, High Court and Court of Appeal.

Recent work
  • Acting for a residential freeholder on a service charge dispute with recovery in full.
  • Acting for both landlords and tenants in opposed and unopposed commercial lease renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954.
  • Acting for both landlords and tenants in residential lease extensions pursuant to the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993.
  • Advanced the settlement of a long-standing dispute involving a claim for an order for sale of a co-owned property.
  • Assisted with an application to forfeit the long lease of a flat. This involved a number of appeals up to the Court of Appeal and resulted in a declaration of breach.
