Iona Nicolson is a solicitor in the Family team. She works with high-profile and high-net-worth clients, advising on financial matters related to the breakdown of a relationship as well as matters relating to children.

Iona works on cases dealing with a wide range of family law issues, and in particular those relating to divorce and the financial issues that arise thereafter. She also advises on the full range of private children matters and pre- and post-nuptial agreements.

She has expertise in cases involving jurisdictional disputes or where substantial assets are located abroad. Iona has worked with clients with complex business interests and/or businesses with a dynastic nature. A number of her cases have involved cryptocurrency, and this is an area in which Iona is particularly interested.

Iona's children practice encompasses both domestic and international matters. She has experience in cases with complex child arrangements, relocation and child abduction.

Iona completed her training contract with a leading family law firm in London in October 2022, and joined Howard Kennedy in August 2023. She is a member of Resolution, an organisation of family lawyers committed to resolving family matters in a constructive manner. Iona is fluent in Dutch.

  • Acted for a wife in complex financial remedy proceedings involving the respondent's litigation capacity.
  • Successfully obtained non-molestation and occupation orders for a wife who had been subject to domestic violence during the marriage and harassment since separation.
  • Successfully obtained third-party disclosure orders and freezing injunctions in a case in which the husband refused to engage in proceedings in any form.
  • Part of the team representing the wife in proceedings against her high-profile husband before the High Court.
  • Acted for the wife in financial remedy proceedings involving complex property and trust structures.
  • Acted for the wife in financial remedy proceedings involving multiple cryptocurrencies.
  • Part of the team that successfully represented the respondent to Hague Convention proceedings on the basis that the children's habitual residence had not changed despite a lengthy stay outside of this jurisdiction.
  • Part of the team that successfully defended an application for relocation to the United States.
