Hugo's work with the Media Disputes team focuses on cases involving defamation, harassment, misuse of private information, data protection regulation, intellectual property infringement and misfeasance in public office.

He trained as a solicitor at Howard Kennedy, qualifying into the Media Disputes team in September 2019.

Hugo's training was substantially devoted to the practice of contentious law:

  • In the Commercial Dispute Resolution team he worked on civil fraud cases, negligence actions, debt recoveries and international contractual disputes;
  • In the Employment team he helped prepare cases to be heard at the Employment Tribunal, in particular cases involving unfair dismissal, wrongful dismissal, unlawful deduction from wages, discrimination and whistleblowing;
  • In the Immigration team he assisted with human rights appeals, asylum appeals, appeals against deportation, judicial review challenges and ETS-TOEIC fraud cases at the Immigration Tribunals.
Recent work
  • Reviewing the evidence disclosed to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse on the behalf of a Core Participant
  • Taking a proof of evidence from the Claimant in a high-profile case involving defamation on a global scale
  • Drafting a settlement agreement regarding an alleged breach of privacy
  • Drafting pre-action correspondence to a potential Defendant alerting them to our client's claims for trade mark infringement and passing off
  • Responding on behalf of a potential Defendant to a pre-action letter regarding alleged copyright infringement
