Hugo Mason is a former entertainment industry professional now a solicitor specialising in Media Disputes.

His work with the Media Disputes team focuses on cases involving intellectual property infringement, defamation, harassment, misuse of private information, data protection, civil liberties and human rights.

Before training to become a lawyer, Hugo spent six years in the entertainment industry working in TV production, casting and as an actor's agent. He now works primarily with organisations in the media and entertainment sector including publishers, broadcasters, production companies, art galleries and artist management companies. However he also works with individuals, particularly in relation to his work involving reputation management, civil liberties and human rights. 

He trained as a solicitor at Howard Kennedy, qualifying into the Media Disputes team in September 2019.

  • Acting for a news publisher in relation to an alleged breach of copyright.
  • Negotiating a settlement on behalf of a production company in relation to the unauthorised use of excerpts from their film within a separate feature length documentary.
  • Advising and acting for a potential Defendant in a threatened defamation claim involving allegations of sexual misconduct she had made on social media.
  • Advising a high-profile client in relation to the unauthorised hack of their social media account and the subsequent release of sensitive personal data online.
