Howard Kennedy improves Chambers rankings in 2023 guide

Howard Kennedy's growth, and continual strengthening of expertise in areas that matter to our clients, is reflected in this year's Chambers UK 2023 guide. We have received 9 practice/sector rankings and 26 lawyer rankings. 

This year's rankings span across the firm's breadth of expertise and include a number of new and improved rankings, highlighted below.

Ian Ryan, who is "consistently brilliant", is now ranked in four categories, after gaining a new ranking this year in Financial Crime: Private Prosecutions. Ian is recognised for being "very well established and respected in this space". 

The firm has been ranked for the first time in Hotels & Leisure. The "very strong and professional" cross-practice team is noted for being "excellent" and "well-versed in the market". 

In the Real Estate department both James Stewart and David Philips have received new rankings, Amanda McNeil has moved up a band, and the Real Estate Dispute Resolution team has moved up too. 

James Stewart, who is ranked in Construction: Non-contentious is praised by clients, "a strategic thinker, and his problem-solving ability is why we instruct James again and again." This complements the firm's current recognition in the Construction: Contentious category, where both Jeffrey Brown and Mark Pritchard are ranked. 

David Philips has been ranked as an individual for the first time in the Real Estate: £10–50 million category, where the team is ranked Band 1. A client notes, "he thinks strategically, can see the bigger picture for us as a client and understands his legal advice in that context."

Amanda McNeil has moved up in the Real Estate Litigation category. Clients say, "Amanda knows the law and she is also someone you can deal with and work towards a solution together". In addition to Amanda moving up, the team has also moved up a band in the same category. The team is known for being "commercially astute", acting with "the greatest care and attention to detail", and have been "exceptional on some very complex matters". 

Lois Langton has improved her ranking in Family/Matrimonial and is now recognised for her work with ultra-high-net-worth individuals. The "brilliant" Lois is "frighteningly smart, incredibly dedicated and understandably adored by her clients." 

Mark Stephens, ranked across four categories, has this year been featured in the International Human Rights Spotlight Table for the first time. He's noted as "a creative solicitor with a very strategic mind", and clients praise his "fearless approach and client loyalty".
