Howard Kennedy advises Lateral on joint venture and development management arrangements

"Cranes sitting on building.

We have recently advised Lateral, a leading and fast growing bespoke life sciences developer and asset manager, on its joint venture and development management arrangements with a leading equity investor, as part of their acquisition of a prime site near The Royal London Hospital.

Robert Crawley, Director and Head of Acquisitions at Lateral, said: "Howard Kennedy were able to step in at very short notice and deliver this strategically important transaction. They familiarised themselves with the complexities and nuances of this transaction quickly, and were a pleasure to work with."

"Whitechapel is the perfect tactical location for life sciences development. It is home to the Royal London Hospital, one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country and part of Barts Health NHS Trust, and Queen Mary University of London with its internationally renowned research centre and oversubscribed Bio-Incubator."

Lateral has announced its strategy to pivot its business plan towards life sciences, having hired senior life sciences project manager Rob Crane in November last year and expects to put in a planning application by the end of 2022 to develop units of varying sizes to attract both new entrants and established players in the sector.

Anthony Hunt, Head of Corporate Real Estate, who introduced this new client to the firm said "We were delighted to work closely with Robert and the Lateral team to deliver the transaction in a very tight timescale". He was supported on the corporate aspects by Solicitor, Oliver McInnes and on the DMA aspects by Head of Construction, James Stewart and Senior Associate, Najma Dunnett. Baker McKenzie acted for the lead equity investor.
