After graduating from the University of Bristol, I worked as a Paralegal at Channel 4 Television Corporation for 15 months. I spent my time in the Commercial Affairs Department drafting various forms of agreements, negotiating terms and working closely with Commissioning Editors and production companies to address potential legal issues that each television programme could bring.
I'm currently preparing to lead a pro-bono seminar at Central St Martins art and design college on intellectual property rights. I anticipate that this will be both my best moment and biggest challenge so far. The challenge will be in making a complicated area of law comprehensible and interesting for a room of students with no legal background and being able to answer any questions correctly (or at least convincingly!). I expect it to be my best moment as I enjoy public speaking and look forward to imparting my legal knowledge and making it relevant.
I enjoy organising charity fundraising events and am currently on the committee of Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity. I'm also a keen theatre-goer, foodie and traveller – recently spending 3 months travelling around Australia, New Zealand and parts of Asia.
You've probably heard this before but it really can't be said enough - do your research! Ensure you know exactly what differentiates Howard Kennedy from other law firms and from that you can work out whether you are suited to working there. Your application will also stand out if it doesn't appear generic.
Be confident at the assessment day and interviews – both in your ideas and in yourself. It really is a friendly firm – use the opportunity to speak to employees and learn as much as you can about life at Howard Kennedy.
