We look for diversity in our trainees and recruit from a range of different backgrounds. We consider applications from those with previous careers, both in and out of the legal world. Most of our trainees have previously worked as paralegals and that is a distinct advantage as we have high expectations of our trainees from day one.
What we offer
As well as access to good quality work and direct client contact, previous trainees have rated the friendliness of the firm, and the good work-life balance. We often recruit mature applicants, people who have had previous careers, as well as those who come straight from law school. Some of our trainees have young families; it’s not a soft option at Howard Kennedy, but we are flexible in our approach and have good support systems in place for trainees throughout their training contract. Since we recruit a relatively small number, there is the space to grow and develop as an individual. Trainees who flourish at Howard Kennedy are those who proactively pursue the many opportunities that present themselves across the firm.
Activities you might get involved with
Our trainees get involved in a range of different activities outside of their ‘day job’. This can range from getting involved with our client entertainment and events, to assisting with pro bono work.
Do you blog or tweet? If you do, and have a passion for writing, there's scope to get involved with the digital presence of the trainees here at Howard Kennedy too. You'll also play an active part in the social and charity committees at Howard Kennedy.
