Leigh Sayliss is a versatile tax lawyer advising clients on property, commercial, and employment taxes in particular. Leigh always brings commercial understanding to transactions. He is the Head of Business and Property Taxes group.
Leigh advises on all areas of taxation that are relevant to the corporate/business sector. His considerable experience covers advising on real estate acquisition and development tax issues, employment tax, and VAT.
He regularly advises on the tax components to corporate M&A, private equity, and funding issues including management incentives, share schemes, and venture capital investments.
In addition to advising on tax structuring, Leigh works with his clients' accountants and other advisers to ensure their planning is correctly implemented. He provides the bridge between the technical requirements of the proposed arrangements and the legal drafting.
His experience and understanding of the commercial environment means he always takes a practical approach to his work. Leigh looks for constructive solutions for his clients, helping them to achieve their objectives in the most pragmatic way.
Leigh is a Chartered Tax Adviser, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and vice-chair of the CIOT Property Taxes Sub-Committee.
He is part of the HMRC SDLT Working Together Steering Group, working with HMRC and HM Treasury to improve the SDLT regime. And he is also a member of the Stamp Taxes Practitioners’ Group and the Law Society's Stamp Taxes Working Group.
Leigh is editor of the property sections of the reference work "Monroe & Nock on the Law of Stamp Duties."
Leigh is also a Member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology and a Chartered Engineer.
