Alexandra Johnstone advises clients on IP, data protection, and commercial issues, focussing particularly on the creative, retail, tech, media and entertainment sectors. 

Alex is a solicitor covering advisory, commercial and contentious IP work for clients. She advises on all forms of registered and unregistered IP matters, focussing on trade marks, copyright, design rights and domain names.

Her clients range from creative and high-profile individuals to global brands and businesses. She helps them to both exploit and protect their valuable IP rights. 

Alex implements clients' objectives and strategies through drafting and negotiating a full set of commercial agreements. She has deep knowledge of where traditional creative sectors intersect with evolving technology, such as in social media advertising, including responding to the Advertising Standards Authority on behalf of clients. 

Alex regularly advises on data protection and privacy issues, particularly in relation to customer personal data such as helping clients appropriately respond to potential data breaches and subject access requests.

  • Advising a Royal Academician (RA) artist on their arrangements to loan various pieces of their artwork. 
  • Acting for the owner of one of the 25 most well-known trade marks in multiple domain name disputes, and maintaining a 100% rate of success. 
  • Acting on the  acquisition of the IP in a £100m+ business operating across over 20 jurisdictions.  
  • Drafting and negotiating social media influencer and celebrity endorsement agreements for one of the most recognisable jewellery brands in the UK.
  • Acting for a client whose group's websites are in the top 50 most visited websites globally on their personal data issues.
