The Legal 500 is an independent guide, and firms and individuals are recommended purely on merit. The rankings are based on recommendations by fellow professionals and clients.

This year Howard Kennedy ranked in 26 categories, showcasing the breath of expertise the firm offers. The guide also highlights leading individuals and rising stars singled out for praise. Here are some of the highlights:

New ranking: Immigration

This is the first year Howard Kennedy has been ranked in Immigration, an area of the firm Head of Immigration Services, and Partner, Antonia Torr has been growing for several years. The team advises on a wide range of inbound immigration issues, concentrating on North America, Russia, the Middle East, Europe, and particularly China. Key areas of work include right to work checks, sponsor licences, and private client issues involving surrogacy, intra-national divorce and estate planning.

New ranking: International Arbitration 

Following the arrival of Africa disputes expert Duncan Bagshaw last year, the team handles international arbitrations under all of the major rules and in many jurisdictions around the world. The team is experienced in disputes concerning the energy, hotels and leisure, and IT and technology industries, as well as the India, Pakistan, Middle East and Africa markets.

New ranking: Commercial property, Corporate occupiers

Howard Kennedy is involved at all stages of the development process from site acquisition and planning through to sales and commercial letting. The team has a focus on advising international investors, from South East Asia and the Middle and Far East, on joint venture projects, with retail and leisure being key areas of specialisation.

Ayesha Salim

Jade Chalmers

Jade is Director of Planning and an expert in all planning matters for a wide range of residential and commercial property developers, leading house builders, property companies, investment funds, and high-net-worth individuals. Her mention in this year's rankings is well deserved recognition.
