Howard Kennedy recognised for breadth of private wealth advice

The Howard Kennedy Private Wealth group achieved a number of new rankings in the recently published Chambers High Net Worth Guide 2020.

The guide ranks the top lawyers and law firms for international private wealth, based on recommendations by fellow professionals and clients.

The firm's wider Private Wealth group features strongly in the this year's guide, evidencing their ability and expertise to meet the legal needs of the most sophisticated of clients: from family governance to divorce, tax planning to trust disputes, immigration to property acquisition, art & cultural law to reputation management. The guide also highlights the firm's work advising affluent clients in serious domestic and international fraud cases.

A client states that "the team is excellent as a whole - I was impressed with their seamless service," continuing: "I was especially impressed by their ability to make our company feel like an important client. We received prompt and commercially practical advice."

There were individual successes for several of the team:

  • Head of Private Wealth, Private Client & Family, Liz Palmer improved her Private Wealth Law ranking from Band 5 to Band 4 with a source noting "Palmer stands out for her very nuanced understanding of the law and her ability to take a considered and pragmatic view on potential courses of action.". Liz acts for several high net worth clients on a range of wealth structuring matters.
  • Ian Ryan, who heads up the Business Crime team at Howard Kennedy, was ranked for the first time in the Financial Crime: High Net Worth Individuals category.  Ian has great experience advising affluent clients in serious domestic and international fraud cases with one interviewee saying "He is well known in this area and has a good reputation". He was described as "a safe pair of hands and a strategic thinker."
  • David Cross was highlighted an "Associate to Watch" in the Real Estate: High Value Residential category. David acts for individual and institutional clients on high-value property matters and a source states  "He was exceptional to deal with and very professional, with an extraordinary knowledge of conveyancing," adding that "he stood out as an exceptional solicitor."

All five partners in the firm's private client team are ranked in the guide. Alongside Liz Palmer there is Naomi O'Higgins, John Annetts, Simon Malkiel and Emily Mailer.

Ranked in Family/Matrimonial: High Net Worth category Lois Langton is praised with a market insider saying "the work she does is brilliant - really high-value and really complex." 

Mark Stephens has rankings in both Art & Cultural Property Law and Defamation/Reputation Management: HNW and is recognised as a "brilliant lawyer" and one commentator states  "He is incredibly good with clients, fights incredibly hard for them, and is an incredibly innovative lawyer in the way he approaches cases."  

Antonia Torr who leads the immigration services team at Howard Kennedy maintains her Up and Coming status with an interviewee stating "she is a decisive, creative and accurate attorney with great social skills and a very strong and pleasant personality,".
