Solicitor Stuart Long joined Howard Kennedy in February 2009 as a Senior Associate in the Tax Department, having previously been a partner and head of corporate tax in the London office of a large national law firm. He has an LL.M in Tax from King’s College, and is a member of the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
Stuart has many years of extensive experience of providing clients with tax advice in respect of complex corporate and corporate finance transactions; private and public company share and asset purchase/disposals; international transactions (including sale and purchase of multi-national companies), reorganisations and restructurings; MBOs/MBIs/LBOs; PFI and public sector projects; private equity funds; VAT arrangements; stamp duty and stamp duty reserve tax issues.
Until the end of 2008, Stuart had a taken a little time away from full-time legal practice to assist with the start-up and running of a successful on-going business. This experience means that he has first-hand knowledge of “entrepreneurial” tax issues, and he has advised clients on the setting-up of businesses in the UK; employment and remuneration tax issues (including setting up various unapproved share option and incentive schemes); individuals immigrating and emigrating to and from the UK (including advising non-UK tax domiciled individuals on residence domicile and remittance); and enterprise investment scheme and venture capital trust relief for investee companies.
